Bharat Ratna Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R. Government Arts and Science College, Palacode
Fulfilling Palacode's long-standing demand for higher education since 2017
About Bharat Ratna Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R. Government Arts and Science College, Palacode
Bharat Ratna Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R. Government Arts and Science College, Palacode was established on 24 July 2017 in response to the long-standing demand of the Palacode area for a local arts and science college. The college was formally named by then Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami during the Dr. MGR birth centenary function held in Dharmapuri district, in honour of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran. The Dharmapuri District Co-operative Sugar Mill management, together with local farmers, allotted 5 acres of land within the Co-operative Society premises for the campus, and the college is affiliated to Periyar University, Salem. The college began with eight undergraduate courses -- Tamil, English, History, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, BBA and Commerce -- and has since added programmes including Public Administration, Social Work and Physics. Facilities include separate boys' and girls' hostels, functional laboratories, a canteen, transport for students and staff, and a library, along with an auditorium for events and seminars. As one of the newer government colleges in Dharmapuri district, it primarily serves students from Palacode taluk who previously had to travel to Dharmapuri town or further for higher education.
