Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Education Academy (DMDEA), Chennai
Towards Excellence in Diabetes Care Training
About Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Education Academy (DMDEA), Chennai
Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Education Academy (DMDEA) was established in September 2008 under the leadership of Prof. V. Mohan, internationally acclaimed diabetologist and research scientist, and the late Dr. (Mrs.) M. Rema, a well-known specialist in diabetic eye disease. The Academy offers specialized training in diabetes and its complications to doctors, nurses, lab technicians, and other paramedical personnel through varied and innovative courses, many offered for the first time in India. DMDEA benefits from its association with its parent institution, Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre (DMDSC), a WHO Collaborating Centre for Noncommunicable Diseases Prevention and Control and an IDF (International Diabetes Federation) Centre of Education. Its activities have been acknowledged by The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, which has granted affiliation to the Academy for several of its courses. On the allied health science side, DMDEA offers a B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology (3-year degree plus 1-year internship), alongside one-year certificate courses in Physician Assistantship, Ophthalmic Nursing Assistant, and Diabetes Technologies, a 10-month National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) for diploma/B.Sc./M.Sc. holders in nutrition, nursing, or life sciences, and the Deakin-DMDEA Course for Diabetes Nurse Educators — a 4-month international programme jointly offered with Deakin University, Australia, for practicing nurses.
