About Government Arts College, Dharmapuri
Government Arts College, Dharmapuri was established in 1965 with the objective of providing higher education opportunities to the people of Dharmapuri district. The college initially started with three courses and gradually expanded its academic portfolio to include undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes. The institution has been functioning from its permanent campus at Thadangam since 1 November 1974, on approximately 42 acres of land. The college was initially affiliated to the University of Madras and has been functioning under Periyar University, Salem since 1998-99. It received NAAC B Grade in its first accreditation cycle and B++ Grade in the second cycle in April 2017. Government Arts College, Dharmapuri currently provides 22 undergraduate courses, 13 postgraduate courses, 10 M.Phil programmes and 6 Ph.D research programmes. The official college website states that more than 7,000 students are studying in the institution and that the college produces more than 1,500 graduates every year. The college provides academic departments across Arts, Science, Commerce and Management and supports students through hostels, laboratories, library facilities, health centre, transport, sports, NSS, NCC, placement and research-related activities.
