About Government Arts College for Women, Krishnagiri
Government Arts College for Women, Krishnagiri was established in 1992 to meet the higher-education needs of women in Krishnagiri district, many from underprivileged rural backgrounds. It began academic operations that year with 112 students, initially named Annai Sandhiya Government Arts College for Women per G.O. No. 800 dated 26/08/1993, before being renamed to its present title under Government Order No. 569 dated 12/01/1997. The college is affiliated to Periyar University, Salem and is located on Rayakotta Road on a campus of around 5.28 hectares. The college now enrolls close to 3,000 students across 12 undergraduate, 7 postgraduate and 2 research programmes in departments including Tamil, Commerce, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Chemistry and Biochemistry, having introduced a shift system in 2007 to accommodate growing demand. It provides well-equipped departmental laboratories, a library, and an active placement cell that runs training and awareness workshops for final-year students, though detailed placement statistics are not widely published. The institution positions itself as a dedicated women-only learning environment offering affordable, government-subsidised higher education to the district's students.
