About Government Arts and Science College for Women, Barugur
Government Arts and Science College for Women, Barugur was established in 1993 with the vision of transforming underprivileged rural girls into educated, self-confident, skilled, employable and self-reliant women. The institution serves students from rural and economically disadvantaged communities of Krishnagiri district and provides opportunities for women to pursue higher education in arts, science, commerce and computer applications. The college is located at Ankinayanapalli Post, Barugur and is affiliated to Periyar University, Salem. The college currently provides a broad range of undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes. Its official academic information lists 12 UG programmes, 8 PG programmes and 4 M.Phil programmes, together with Ph.D research programmes in English and Commerce and a Computer Literacy certificate course. The institution has dedicated departments, teaching staff, laboratories, library facilities, placement support, student welfare activities and several extension and co-curricular initiatives including NCC, NSS, Youth Red Cross, Red Ribbon Club, Yoga, Fine Arts and Women Development activities.
