Government Medical College and Hospital, Dindigul, functions under the Directorate of Medical Education, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, since 1 March 2021. Alongside its MBBS programme (5 batches of 150 students each), the college runs an Allied Health Sciences wing offering the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology (B.Sc. MLT) and a range of certificate-level paramedical courses. The B.Sc. MLT programme is a 3-year, 6-semester undergraduate course combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on laboratory training in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, Clinical Pathology, Immunology & Serology, Blood Banking, and Histopathology & Cytology. Graduates are trained in sample collection, use of advanced laboratory equipment, and diagnostic testing, preparing them for roles as medical laboratory technicians, laboratory supervisors, blood bank technologists, and quality control analysts. The college additionally offers certificate courses in Emergency Care Technician, Dialysis Technician, Anaesthesia Technician, Theatre Technician, Orthopedic Technician, and Multipurpose Health Worker (MPHW), reflecting its focus on building a skilled allied healthcare workforce for the region.
