Government Thiruvannamalai Medical College and Hospital (GTMCH) is a government medical college operated by the Government of Tamil Nadu, situated on the Thiruvannamalai Outer Ring Road in Vengikkal New Town, Thirinjapuram Union, Thiruvannamalai district. The college emerged from the transfer of the 440-bed Tiruvannamalai Government District Headquarters Hospital — which began as a Taluk hospital in 1950 — to the Department of Medical Education on 1 April 2012. It was relaunched as a teaching hospital offering 100 undergraduate MBBS seats, with the first batch commencing studies in the 2013–2014 academic year. The college is affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai and is recognized for degrees granted on or after February 2018. Spread over 35.44 acres, the college offers MBBS along with postgraduate programmes in MD Paediatrics and MS Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The hospital's clinical departments include Medicine and Surgery (120 beds across 4 units), Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Orthopaedics (60 beds across 2 units), Chest Medicine, Ophthalmology and ENT (20 beds), and Dermatology and Psychiatry (20 beds), along with attached Primary Health Centres for rural and urban health training.
