L.R.G. Government Arts College for Women, Tiruppur was established on 15 July 1971 with an initial intake of 221 students. The college is named after philanthropist Shri L.R.G. Naidu, who donated the land for the institution. The official college website states that the institution is situated on a 10.16-acre campus in Tiruppur and has developed into a Post Graduate and Research Institution dedicated to women's higher education. The college is affiliated with Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, and is recognised under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The institution currently offers 17 Undergraduate, 9 Postgraduate and 9 Research programmes and has a student strength of 4,251 with 163 faculty members and 30 non-teaching staff. The college serves students from Tiruppur, Nilgiris and Erode districts and provides academic, research, extension and student-development opportunities.
