About Periyar Arts College
Periyar Arts College was started in 1964 at Cuddalore, inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Madras, Thiru M. Bakthavatsalam, and initially admitted 360 students in the Pre-University course. Named after the social reformer Thanthai Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, the college is situated on the shore of the Bay of Bengal at Devanampattinam village. It is a government-run institution affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore, and accredited by NAAC with a B grade. Over the decades it has added B.Com., B.Sc. Chemistry, Physics, Botany, History, Zoology, Computer Science and M.Com. among other programmes. The college continues to offer UG and PG courses in Arts, Science and Commerce, along with M.Phil. and Ph.D. research opportunities in select departments.
