About Rajah Serfoji Government College (Autonomous)
Rajah Serfoji Government College (Autonomous), Thanjavur was established in 1955 with the vision of providing quality higher education to students from all sections of society, particularly socially and economically disadvantaged students in the Thanjavur and Cauvery Delta region. The institution was initially started in the Sangeetha Mahal of the Thanjavur Palace Complex and later moved to its permanent campus. The college became a Government institution in 1965 and attained autonomous status in 2004. The college is affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli and is recognised with NAAC 'A' Grade and DST-FIST status. The institution currently offers programmes across Science, Humanities, Commerce and Business Administration, including undergraduate, postgraduate, M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes. The official college profile states 22 UG, 14 PG, 9 M.Phil. and 20 Ph.D. programmes, while the official 2023-24 AQAR reports 47 programmes during that academic year. The campus includes 44 acres of land, 107 classrooms, 20 laboratories and 4 seminar halls. The institution supports academic development through its central library and 13 departmental libraries, digital learning resources, Computer Literacy Programme, research facilities, mentoring, career guidance, NSS, NCC, Youth Red Cross, sports, cultural activities and student welfare schemes.
