About Shri Sowdeswari Women's College
Shri Sowdeswari Women's College, formerly Salem Sowdeswari College, was established in 1975 under the management of Sri Sowdeswari Mahajana Charitable Trust. The college was declared open on 14 July 1975 and subsequently expanded its degree programmes across Arts, Commerce and Science disciplines. The institution obtained UGC recognition in 1980 and became eligible under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act. In 1997, affiliation of the college was transferred to the newly established Periyar University, Salem. The institution was originally a co-educational college and, following Government approval received in 2022, began admitting only women students from the academic year 2022-23. The college currently provides aided and self-financing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes along with M.Phil and Ph.D research programmes in selected disciplines. Its campus provides classrooms, library facilities, laboratories, hostel accommodation, digital learning resources, student clubs, career counselling and placement activities. The college also conducts academic, cultural, sports, social-awareness and community-oriented programmes throughout the academic year.

Admission Process
Application
Students can access the college online application process and apply for the programmes of their choice.
Eligibility
UG applicants must satisfy the prescribed subject and qualifying-mark requirements. The college states a 50% mark requirement in the relevant subject for UG programmes.
Merit Selection
Admissions are based on marks and community reservations, with relevant subject marks considered for ranking.
Document Verification
Applicants must produce 12th standard mark statements, transfer certificate, conduct certificate, community certificate where applicable, photographs and prescribed fees.
University Eligibility
Candidates who completed qualifying examinations other than Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary or CBSE may need an eligibility certificate from Periyar University.
Fee Payment
Selected candidates complete the prescribed admission and fee payment formalities before joining the programme.
