About St. Louis College for the Deaf
St. Louis College for the Deaf, located in Adyar, Chennai, was founded in 1993 by the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel. Standing as the first college for the deaf in India and the second in all of Asia, it is a pioneering institution dedicated to bringing higher education within reach of hearing-impaired students from across the nation. Affiliated with the University of Madras, the college offers specialized undergraduate degrees such as B.Com (in Tamil and English mediums) and B.C.A (in English medium), designed specifically with inclusive pedagogical techniques, sign language interpretation, and visual learning aids. The campus provides dedicated hostel facilities, specialized computer laboratories, vocational training, and targeted career placement support to ensure that students overcome physical barriers and achieve professional independence and self-reliance.
