About Thiru Kolanjiappar Government Arts College
Thiru Kolanjiappar Government Arts College began functioning in 1966 in the name of Lord Kolanjiappar, initially as a Pre-University college housed in the Boys High School building in Vridhachalam. Land for the permanent campus, on the banks of the Manimutha river, was donated by the authorities of the Sri Vriddhagireeswarar Temple, and the college moved there in 1971. It received permanent recognition under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act in 1971 and was awarded a B+ grade by NAAC after a 2005 assessment. The college is affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore, and serves students from a roughly 40 km radius around Vridhachalam taluk, offering education free of cost as per Tamil Nadu government norms. A shift system was introduced in 2007 to expand access, and the college now offers around 10 undergraduate and 7 postgraduate programmes, including research opportunities in Tamil literature.
